Vívóversenyek, or fencing competitions, are organized events where fencers compete against each other using the art of fencing. These competitions are held across various levels, from local club matches to international championships and the Olympic Games. The primary goal in a fencing competition is to score points by touching the opponent with one's weapon in a valid target area, according to the specific rules of the chosen fencing discipline.

There are three distinct weapons used in modern fencing, each with its own set of rules and target areas: foil, épée, and sabre. Foil fencing targets the torso and requires a lighter touch, prioritizing precision and speed. Épée allows for a thrust to any part of the body, with a heavier weapon and a "double-touch" rule where the first to hit scores. Sabre is a thrusting and cutting weapon, with valid touches on the entire body above the waist, emphasizing dynamic attacks and parries.

Competitions typically involve a pool round where fencers compete against several opponents in short bouts to advance to the direct elimination (DE) phase. In DE, fencers face off in single-elimination matches until a winner is determined. Bouts are officiated by referees who enforce the rules and award touches. Vívóversenyek require a combination of physical skill, strategic thinking, and mental fortitude, making them exciting spectacles of athleticism and combat.
