Värmepistoler, often referred to as heat guns, are versatile tools that utilize a heating element and a fan to produce a stream of hot air. The temperature and airflow can typically be adjusted to suit various applications. These devices are powered by electricity, either from a mains outlet or a battery in some cordless models.

The primary function of a heat gun is to soften or melt materials using controlled heat. This makes them useful for a wide range of tasks. Common uses include stripping paint and varnish, as the heat causes these coatings to bubble and peel away easily. They are also employed in softening plastic for molding or shaping, and in shrink-wrapping applications to tighten plastic film around objects.

In automotive and DIY contexts, heat guns can be used for tasks such as loosening rusted bolts, drying wet surfaces, or curing adhesives. Plumbers may use them to soften PVC pipes for easier joining. In electronics, they are sometimes used for soldering heat-shrink tubing to insulate electrical connections.

Safety precautions are important when operating a heat gun. The hot air stream can cause burns and damage to heat-sensitive materials. Proper ventilation is also recommended, especially when working with paints or solvents that may release fumes when heated. Protective eyewear and gloves are advisable. Different nozzle attachments can be used to focus or disperse the heat, further enhancing their utility for specific jobs.
