Hue is what we commonly think of as the pure color, such as red, blue, or green. It corresponds to the dominant wavelength of light. Saturation, also known as chroma, describes the intensity or purity of a hue. A highly saturated color is vivid and pure, while a desaturated color appears more muted or grayish. Lightness, or value, refers to how light or dark a color is. A high lightness value indicates a color closer to white, whereas a low lightness value suggests a color closer to black.

These three dimensions are often visualized using color models like the Munsell color system or by understanding color spaces such as HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) and HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value).
