Vorschul

Vorschul is a term sometimes used in German-speaking contexts to refer to preschool or pre-primary education. The standard term is Vorschule, meaning pre-school, which describes organized education for children before they enter primary school.

Usage and scope: In Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, preschool structures vary by country and even by state. Kindergarten commonly serves children roughly aged 3 to 6. In some regions, a separate Vorschulklasse or Vorschule functions as a transitional program intended to ease the move to primary school, usually for five-year-olds.

Curriculum and pedagogy: Vorschule programs emphasize developmentally appropriate, play-based learning. Typical goals include language development, early literacy and numeracy, social and emotional skills, motor development, and familiarity with school routines and environments.

Organization and governance: Preschool may be publicly funded or provided by municipalities, with variations in hours and days per week. Some families also opt for private preschools. Attendance policies depend on jurisdiction and family choice.
