Vorhofanhängsel, also known as atrial appendage or auricle, refers to a small, ear-shaped pouch that projects from the upper chambers of the heart, the atria. There are two such appendages, one on the left atrium and one on the right atrium. The left atrial appendage is a particularly significant structure due to its role in cardiovascular health and disease. It is a muscular pouch with a narrow opening connecting it to the main body of the left atrium.
