The Voith Schneider propeller, often abbreviated as VS propulsion or Voith-Schneider drive, is a type of marine propulsion system. Developed by Voith AG in Germany, it is characterized by its ability to generate thrust in any direction by varying the pitch of its rotating blades. This directional control is achieved through a complex mechanical linkage system that converts the rotation of a main shaft into the pitching and rotating motion of vertical blades.

The core components of a Voith Schneider propeller include a rotating disc or cylinder with a series of vertical blades mounted around its periphery. As the disc rotates, an internal mechanism, controlled by an external lever or joystick, alters the angle of each blade individually as it passes through the water.
