Virtuaalsüsteemi

Virtuaalsüsteemi, often translated as virtual system, refers to a computing environment that is not directly controlled by the physical hardware it runs on. Instead, it operates on an abstraction layer, typically provided by virtualization software, also known as a hypervisor. This abstraction allows a single physical machine to host multiple independent operating systems and their associated applications, each functioning as if it were running on its own dedicated hardware.

The core concept behind a virtuaalsüsteemi is the creation of virtualized resources, such as virtual CPUs, virtual memory, and virtual storage. These virtual components are mapped to the underlying physical resources. This separation provides several benefits. Firstly, it enables efficient utilization of hardware, as multiple less resource-intensive systems can coexist on one powerful machine. Secondly, it enhances flexibility and portability; virtual systems can be easily migrated, backed up, and restored.

Security is another significant advantage. Each virtual system is isolated from others running on the same host. A failure or security breach in one virtual system generally does not affect the others or the host. This isolation is crucial for testing new software, running legacy applications, or providing secure, sandboxed environments for users.
