Virtakaapelit, often translated as power cables, are essential components in virtually all electrical systems. In some applications, particularly in high-voltage or sensitive systems, shielding layers are incorporated. These shields, often made of braided metal or foil, help to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and can also provide a path for fault currents.

The design and specifications of power cables vary significantly depending on their intended use. Factors like voltage rating, current carrying capacity, flexibility, and environmental resistance dictate the cable's construction. From the thick, heavy-duty cables powering industrial machinery to the thin, flexible cords found in consumer electronics, the diversity of power cables reflects the vast array of electrical applications they serve. Proper selection and installation of power cables are critical for ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical systems.
