Vezluk

Vezluk is a town and municipality in the eastern lowlands of the fictional country Solenia. It lies along the Vezluk River, about 60 kilometers south of the capital Solis. The municipality covers 68 square kilometers and has a population of about 8,400 (2021). Its economy relies on agriculture, dairy farming, and small manufacturing.

History: First documented in the 12th century. A fortress protected the river crossing, around which the settlement grew. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century spurred growth, and municipal status was granted in 1903. Floods in the early 20th century prompted rebuilding.

Geography and climate: Flat to gently rolling plains with fertile soils. Temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters; average rainfall around 620 mm.

Culture and landmarks: The annual harvest festival is held in autumn. Notable sites include the ruins of Vezluk Fortress and the 15th-century St. Margaretha Church. Local crafts include weaving and pottery.

Infrastructure and education: Served by a regional railway line and a main road to Solis. Primary and secondary schools; a small public library. The nearest university is in Solis.

Demographics: Predominantly Solenian ethnicity; minority Roma and foreign residents. Most residents are secular or Roman Catholic.
