Vestelan

Vestelan is a fictional sovereign state located on the eastern coast of the continent of Aridia. The capital is Lyrim and the largest city is Maraport. Official language is Vestanese; minority languages include Calari and Marari. The population is about 2.3 million. The currency is the Vestan crown. Vestelan is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The unicameral legislature has 120 seats.

Geography: Vestelan spans coastal lowlands and inland highlands. The western Vestelan Highlands rise to about 1,800 meters, while the Danara Plain covers much of the eastern half. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and warm summers. Key rivers include the Neris and Valen. A deep-water port at Vestport anchors the economy.

History: The region's early coastal communities united into a polity in the 18th century. Vestelan gained autonomy in the early 1800s and full independence in 1849. It joined the Anglia Economic Union in 1901; the present constitution was enacted in 1982.

Economy: The economy is diversified, with fisheries and agriculture, manufacturing (textiles and electronics), and services. Renewable energy—onshore wind and solar—has expanded capacity. Tourism, focused on maritime heritage and medieval towns, is a growing sector.

Society and culture: Vestelan is predominantly Vestanese, with recognized minority communities. Education is compulsory through secondary level; higher education centers include Vestelan University in Lyrim. Cultural life emphasizes maritime heritage, local crafts, and the annual Festival of the Sea.
