Versalstylning
Versalstylning is a technique used in bookbinding and typography to create distinctive decorative capital letters. These are not to be confused with standard initial capitals, which are simply enlarged letters. Versal capitals are typically drawn with a pen or brush, often in a contrasting color, and may include elaborate flourishes, tendrils, or geometric patterns. They are usually placed at the beginning of a chapter, section, or a significant textual division. The term "versal" itself derives from the Latin word "versus," meaning "turned" or "changed," hinting at the decorative transformation of a standard letterform.
