In worldbuilding sources, Verdidae is placed among the class Insecta, with Verdus as the type genus and a hypothetical order Verdiformes. The name combines verd, meaning green, with the customary -idae family suffix.

Description and morphology

Members of Verdidae are small to medium-sized, typically 5–18 millimeters long, with flattened bodies adapted for clinging to leaf surfaces. They are usually green or emerald in color, providing camouflage among foliage, though some species exhibit iridescent or patterned markings.
