Verbindungsleiste

Verbindungsleiste is a term used in electrical engineering to describe a component that provides electrical connections between multiple conductors. It is a strip or block designed to connect, distribute and organize wires or cables. Typical forms are a rail with several screw or clamp terminals, or modular sections that can be added as needed. The device is usually made from an insulating material such as PVC or phenolic resin, sometimes with a metal core, and may include labeling fields, color coding or protective covers.

Function and design: Verbindungsleisten serve as central points where incoming and outgoing conductors are joined or bridged, enabling distribution from a common supply to several circuits. They simplify wiring in control panels, switchgear and equipment housings and aid maintenance. Configurations vary from straight to right-angled or modular, with screw clamps, spring clamps or push-in connections.

Applications: Used in electrical installations in industrial control panels, distribution boards, consumer electronics enclosures and automation systems. They are also used for prototyping or test setups in laboratories or workshops.

Safety and standards: Verbindungsleisten must be rated for the installation’s voltage and current, provide adequate insulation and secure conductor clamping. Compliance with standards such as DIN EN 60664 or local electrical codes is recommended. Proper labeling, spacing and maintenance help prevent short circuits or overheating.
