Verbazen

Verbazen is a fictional framework and platform designed to study and apply verb-centered semantics and action-oriented communication in natural language processing, education, and human–computer interaction. Conceived as an interdisciplinary project, Verbazen integrates linguistic theory, machine learning, and data curation to model how verbs express aspect, mood, and causality across languages.

The name blends verbum, the Latin word for 'word,' with zen, signaling a state of refined focus. Verbazen encompasses cross-linguistic analyses of event structure, predicate semantics, and predicate-argument relations, with an emphasis on polysemy management and transparent representation of action semantics for both humans and machines.

Core components include Verbazen Core, a probabilistic model of verb semantics; Verbazen Studio, an annotation platform for verb frames and valency; Verbazen Atlas, a multilingual verb database; and the Verbazen Protocol, a data-interchange standard enabling sharing among researchers and software applications.

Development began in 2019 through collaborations among universities and research laboratories in a fictional academic ecosystem. Early prototypes appeared in 2020–2021, followed by publicly accessible datasets and an open-source toolkit that invited community contributions and peer review.

Applications span linguistic research, language education, and artificial intelligence. In NLP systems, Verbazen techniques aim to improve verb sense disambiguation, tense and aspect analysis, and event recognition in multimodal data. Critics caution about annotation bias and the resource demands of large corpora, while proponents note the approach's cross-linguistic potential and educational value.
