Construction and function

A Ventilkorb typically consists of a cylindrical cage with perforations or a surrounding mesh that fits within the valve body. It is designed to intercept solids carried by the fluid while allowing a continuous flow, thereby protecting downstream components such as seals, pumps, or actuators. The basket is usually removable for cleaning or replacement, and some designs enable in-situ cleaning. Depending on the service, a Ventilkorb may serve primarily as a screen or as a combination filter and flow director to minimize turbulence.

Materials and variants

Common materials include stainless steel, bronze, and other corrosion-resistant alloys, selected for compatibility with the conveyed fluid and operating temperature.
