Ventilierte

Ventilierte is a German adjective derived from the verb ventili­eren (to ventilate) and is used to describe objects, spaces or systems that are provided with ventilation or an air gap. In technical contexts it is especially common in building technology.

In the construction sector, the term appears prominently with ventilated façades (hinterlüftete Fassaden). A venti­lated facade describes an exterior wall system that includes a hinterlüftete Luftschicht (ventilated air gap) between the outer cladding and the insulation. This air layer enables air exchange, helps to remove moisture, reduces condensation, and can improve the overall thermal performance of the wall. Typical components are the outer cladding, the air void, insulation, and a substructure or mounting system that keeps the gap open to permit airflow. The design requires proper detailing to ensure drainage, moisture control, and material compatibility.

Beyond façades, ventiliert can refer to spaces designed for controlled air supply and exhaust, i.e., ventilated rooms, where a defined air change rate maintains indoor air quality. In medical contexts, ventilation refers to mechanical breathing support, and related terms are used to describe patients or facilities that are ventilated; however, this usage is more specialized and separate from architectural terminology.
