Ventilationssystemens refers to the systems used for ventilation, which is the process of replacing or exchanging air in any space to provide high indoor air quality. This is done by bringing in fresh outdoor air while removing stale indoor air. Ventilation systems are crucial for maintaining a healthy and comfortable indoor environment, removing pollutants, moisture, and odors, and controlling temperature and humidity.

There are two primary types of ventilation systems: natural and mechanical. Natural ventilation relies on passive methods such as opening windows and doors, or utilizing the stack effect where warmer air rises and exits through higher openings, drawing cooler air in through lower openings. Mechanical ventilation, on the other hand, uses fans and ductwork to actively circulate air. This can range from simple exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens to complex whole-house systems.

A common type of mechanical system is a Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) or Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV). These systems pre-condition incoming fresh air by transferring heat and/or moisture from the outgoing stale air, thereby saving energy. HRV systems are primarily for heat exchange, while ERV systems also transfer moisture, making them more suitable for climates with high humidity.

Properly designed and maintained ventilation systems are essential for preventing issues such as mold growth, condensation, and the buildup of harmful gases like carbon monoxide and radon. They play a significant role in occupant comfort and health, contributing to a better quality of life within buildings.
