Vastuvõtjas is an Estonian term referring to an individual who receives something in a formal or semi‑formal context, often as the host or recipient of an event, gift, or communication. The word derives from the verb vastuvõtma, meaning “to receive.” In everyday usage, vastuvõtjas denotes the person or entity that welcomes guests, accepts gifts, or is addressed by an invitation.

In hospitality settings a vastuvõtjas often functions as the guest of honor, responsible for ensuring the comfort and acknowledgement of visitors. For example, in a company reception, the event organizer may be the vastuvõtjas, greeting attendees and delivering opening remarks. In academic conferences, the chair or principal speaker might be identified as the vastuvõtjas when they receive the attendance acknowledgment and share the keynote.

The term also applies to recipients of awards or honors. When an award ceremony takes place, the award’s presenter formally invites the awardee— who is then termed the vastuvõtjas— to accept the accolade.
