Vastusmatriisi, also known as the vastus medialis oblique (VMO) muscle, is a significant component of the quadriceps femoris muscle group in the human body. It is located on the medial side of the thigh, beneath the rectus femoris muscle. The VMO muscle plays a crucial role in knee flexion and stabilization, particularly during activities that involve rapid changes in direction or deceleration, such as cutting maneuvers in sports like soccer or basketball.

The vastus medialis oblique muscle originates from the linea aspera of the femur and inserts into the patella via the patellar ligament. It is innervated by the femoral nerve, which is a branch of the lumbar plexus.
