Vasaloppet

Vasaloppet is an annual cross-country ski race held in Sweden, widely recognized as the oldest and one of the longest cross-country ski races in the world. It was founded in 1922 to commemorate Gustav Vasa's escape in 1521 and is named after him.

The race takes place in Dalarna County, running about 90 kilometers from Sälen to Mora, typically in early March. The course is skied in classical technique and traverses forests, valleys, and open terrain, finishing in Mora. The event attracts participants from around the world, including elite professionals and recreational skiers, and has grown into a multi-day festival with related events and open-track options.

Vasaloppet is organized by the Vasaloppet association and is part of the Worldloppet Ski Federation, linking it with other long-distance races around the world. The finish in Mora, long-standing traditions, and media coverage contribute to its status as a major winter-sports event in Sweden and internationally.

In addition to the main 90-kilometer race, Vasaloppet Week features related events and activities, including shorter races and community programs, making the event a broad celebration of cross-country skiing and Swedish cultural heritage.
