Vapaaehtoisryhmiä, Finnish for volunteer groups, are organized collectives whose members contribute labor, services, or expertise without financial remuneration. These groups exist across a wide spectrum of activities, from community safety and environmental stewardship to cultural preservation and disaster relief. The Finnish tradition of volunteerism traces back to the 19th century, when local societies and clubs were formed to support social welfare and national identity. In modern times, the State provides support through legislation and funding mechanisms that encourage volunteer participation, particularly in health care, public safety, and youth organizations.

Volunteer groups can be formal entities with charters, elected leadership, and budgets, or informal assemblies that meet regularly to tackle specific tasks.
