Valuuttapariin, also known as a currency pair, represents the value of one currency in relation to another. It is a fundamental concept in the foreign exchange (forex) market, where currencies are traded. A currency pair is typically quoted with a base currency first, followed by a quote currency. For example, in the pair EUR/USD, the Euro (EUR) is the base currency and the US Dollar (USD) is the quote currency.

The quote currency indicates how much of the quote currency is needed to purchase one unit of the base currency. If EUR/USD is trading at 1.1000, it means that one Euro is equal to 1.1000 US Dollars. Forex traders use currency pairs to speculate on the future movements of exchange rates. When a trader buys a currency pair, they are buying the base currency and selling the quote currency. Conversely, when they sell a currency pair, they are selling the base currency and buying the quote currency.

The major currency pairs, often referred to as "majors," include those involving the US Dollar and other major global currencies like the Euro, Japanese Yen, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Canadian Dollar, and Australian Dollar. These pairs are characterized by high liquidity and tight spreads. Other currency pairs are categorized as "minors" (crosses) and "exotics." Minors are pairs that do not include the US Dollar but involve two other major currencies, while exotics consist of a major currency paired with a currency from a smaller or emerging economy. Understanding currency pairs is essential for anyone involved in international trade, finance, or forex trading.
