Valonvärilämpötila, often referred to simply as color temperature, is a characteristic of visible light that has important implications in fields like photography, lighting design, and display technology. It describes the color appearance of light emitted by a black-body radiator at a specific temperature. In practical terms, it helps us understand how "warm" or "cool" a light source appears to the human eye.

The unit of measurement for color temperature is Kelvin (K). Lower Kelvin values, typically around 2000K to 3000K, correspond to warmer light, which has a reddish or yellowish hue. This is often associated with incandescent bulbs and candlelight. As the Kelvin value increases, the light appears cooler, shifting towards blue. For instance, daylight typically falls in the range of 5000K to 6500K, appearing white or slightly bluish. Very high color temperatures, above 7000K, produce a distinctly blue light.

Understanding color temperature is crucial for achieving desired visual effects. In photography and videography, matching the color temperature of the light source to the camera's white balance setting ensures that white objects appear white in the final image and that colors are rendered accurately. In interior design, warm lighting can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, while cooler lighting can promote alertness and focus, making it suitable for workspaces. Different types of light bulbs, such as LEDs and fluorescent lamps, are often specified with their color temperature, allowing consumers to choose the lighting that best suits their needs.
