Valodiodinäytöt, often referred to as LED displays, are a type of electronic visual display that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to produce an image. These displays are composed of a matrix of individual LEDs, which can be illuminated in different colors and intensities to form pixels. When viewed together, these pixels create the desired image or video. The fundamental principle behind their operation is electroluminescence, where an electric current passes through a semiconductor material, causing it to emit light.

LED displays are widely used due to their numerous advantages, including high brightness, excellent contrast ratios, and vibrant color reproduction. They are also energy-efficient, consume less power than many older display technologies, and have a long lifespan. Their modular nature allows for the creation of displays of virtually any size and shape, from small indicator lights to massive outdoor screens.

The color of the light emitted by an LED is determined by the semiconductor material used. By combining red, green, and blue LEDs, a full spectrum of colors can be achieved, forming the basis of full-color LED displays. The resolution of an LED display is determined by the density of the LEDs, with more LEDs packed into a given area resulting in a sharper image. Applications range from televisions and computer monitors to digital signage, scoreboards, and stage lighting.
