Valmistusohjelmointi, often translated as manufacturing programming or production programming, refers to the process of creating the software instructions that control automated manufacturing equipment. This includes machines such as CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, robotic arms, and assembly lines. The primary goal is to translate design specifications and production requirements into a language that these machines can understand and execute.

The development of manufacturing programs typically involves several stages. First, engineers or programmers analyze the product design, often using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) data. They then determine the sequence of operations, tool paths, speeds, and other parameters necessary for manufacturing. Software tools are employed to generate the machine code, which is a set of instructions like G-code or M-code.

This generated code is then loaded onto the manufacturing machine. During operation, the machine reads these instructions and performs the required actions, such as cutting, welding, or assembling. Effective manufacturing programming is crucial for ensuring product quality, production efficiency, and the safety of the manufacturing process. It requires a deep understanding of both the product being manufactured and the capabilities of the machinery involved.
