Valendia

Valendia is a microstate situated on the western coast of the continent of Erythria, bordered by the Republic of Lyrithia to the north, the Kingdom of Valtor to the east, the Sea of Trilan to the south, and the archipelagic Commonwealth of Serene Isles to the west. The country covers an area of approximately 4,200 square kilometres and has a population of roughly 85,000 inhabitants, according to the most recent census of 2022. The capital and largest city, Valoria, lies in the central plateau and serves as the political, economic, and cultural hub of the nation.

The history of Valendia dates back to the early medieval period, when a series of small principalities were unified under the House of Aldric in 1124. The kingdom reached its territorial peak in the 15th century, encompassing much of the hinterlands that now form neighboring states. During the 19th century, Valendia entered a period of constitutional monarchy, although the monarchy was abolished in 1947 following a peaceful transition to a parliamentary republic. Since then, Valendia has maintained a stable political climate and has become a member of the International Union of Nations.

Valendia’s economy is predominantly agrarian, with viticulture and olive cultivation representing the majority of agricultural output. The country is renowned for its unique blend of Mediterranean and alpine grape varieties, and its wine exports reach markets across the continent. In addition to agriculture, the service sector—particularly tourism and financial services—accounts for a growing share of the GDP. Valendia is also investing in renewable energy, with a focus on hydroelectric and solar projects aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.

Culturally, Valendia reflects a blend of indigenous traditions and influences from neighboring regions, especially in its cuisine, music, and folk festivals. The official language is Valendian, a Romance language with a substantial number of loanwords from neighbouring tongues. Education is free and compulsory until secondary level, and the literacy rate is reported at 98%. The national emblem—a silver double‑wound vine encircled by a laurel wreath—symbolizes both the country’s agricultural heritage and its enduring aspirations for peace and prosperity.
