Vajadustehiskond, also known as need-based society, is a theoretical framework that posits a society structured around the fulfillment of individual needs rather than economic productivity or class distinctions. This concept is often associated with the works of the sociologist Robert K. Merton, who introduced the idea in his 1957 book "Social Structure and Anomie." Merton argued that traditional societies, which were based on the fulfillment of basic needs, were more stable and less prone to social unrest than modern societies, which focus on economic productivity.
