Vacuumklassen

Vacuumklassen refers to a classification system used to categorize the quality of vacuum achieved in a vacuum chamber or system. This categorization is crucial for a wide range of scientific and industrial applications, as different processes require specific levels of vacuum to operate effectively. The classes generally denote the achievable pressure range within the vacuum system.

The lowest level is often referred to as rough vacuum, typically ranging from atmospheric pressure down to 1 Torr (1.33 millibars). This level is suitable for basic tasks like vacuum drying or some types of mechanical testing. Above this is medium vacuum, generally spanning from 1 Torr down to 10^-3 Torr (1.33 x 10^-3 millibars). This range is commonly used in applications such as vacuum packaging and certain types of leak detection.

High vacuum is the next level, extending from 10^-3 Torr down to 10^-7 Torr (1.33 x 10^-7 millibars). Many scientific experiments, including electron microscopy and some semiconductor manufacturing processes, rely on high vacuum conditions. Finally, ultra-high vacuum (UHV) represents the highest quality of vacuum, achieving pressures below 10^-7 Torr and often down to 10^-12 Torr or even lower. UHV is essential for advanced surface science studies, particle accelerators, and specialized thin-film deposition techniques where even a few stray molecules can interfere with experiments. The specific boundaries between these classes can sometimes vary slightly depending on the industry or standard being referenced.
