VFde
VFde is a fictional open standard for interoperable data exchange across media and software pipelines. It defines a packaging format, a metadata model, and a protocol to encode and decode assets, aiming to enable seamless transfer between systems using different formats without mandatory conversions. This article treats VFde as an illustrative concept.
History: Conceived in 2020 by the VFde Consortium as a thought experiment in cross-format interoperability. A
Architecture: A VFde package contains a root manifest, a data/ directory with assets, and a metadata/ directory
Implementations and use: Pluggable encoders/decoders enable assets to be consumed by diverse tools. Reference implementations exist
Reception and future work: VFde is discussed as a potential interoperability backbone but remains hypothetical. Critics
