Utilstækkeligheden, also known as *utilitarian sufficiency*, is a concept within ethical philosophy and economics that examines the adequacy of resources and opportunities to meet basic human needs and promote well-being. Rooted in utilitarian thought, it emphasizes the distribution of goods and services in a manner that maximizes overall happiness or satisfaction while ensuring that fundamental requirements are met for all individuals.

The idea builds on classical utilitarianism, which prioritizes the greatest good for the greatest number, but shifts focus toward ensuring that no individual falls below a minimum threshold of well-being. This approach critiques both extreme inequality and excessive consumption, advocating for a balanced distribution where resources are sufficient to prevent deprivation while avoiding wasteful excess.

In practical terms, utilstækkeligheden suggests that societal policies should aim to provide enough for everyone to live decently—enough food, shelter, healthcare, and education—without unnecessary luxury.
