Ungerede

Ungerede is a town and municipality in central Veridia. It is part of the Veridian regional district and is governed by an elected mayor and a municipal council. The municipality had an estimated population of 11,500 in 2023 and covers about 38 square kilometers.

Ungerede lies in a shallow valley along the Unger River, surrounded by oak and beech forests and gentle hills. The area has a temperate climate with warm summers, cold winters, and annual precipitation around 700 millimeters.

The settlement originated in the 12th century as a market village. Town rights were granted in the 14th century, and the town developed around trade routes and crafts. A late-19th-century railway connection linked Ungerede to larger markets, spurring population growth. In the late 20th century, it underwent administrative reforms and integrated into a wider regional framework.

The local economy relies on services, small manufacturing, agriculture, and forestry. Traditional products include cheese and timber-based goods. The town center preserves several historic buildings, including the St. Gertrude Church (c. 1450) and the Old Town Hall.

Ungerede is served by a regional highway and a passenger rail line with a stop in the town. The nearest international airport is Verdia City Airport, about 40 kilometers to the northeast. Cultural life centers on seasonal markets and a harvest festival. Education comprises two primary schools and a secondary school; residents access higher education in neighboring cities.
