Unelastisch

Unelastisch is a term used primarily in economics and physics to describe a type of response to changes in external forces or conditions. In economics, unelastisch refers to goods or services whose quantity demanded does not significantly change when their price fluctuates. This concept is known as inelastic demand. Products that are considered essential, such as basic food items, medications, and utilities, often exhibit inelastic demand because consumers will purchase them regardless of price changes.

In contrast, elastic demand involves a significant change in quantity demanded when prices change. The degree of elasticity is measured by the price elasticity of demand, which quantifies how much the quantity demanded responds to a price variation.

In physics, unelastisch (or inelastic) materials are those that do not significantly deform when subjected to stress and do not return to their original shape after the force is removed. Such materials tend to absorb energy rather than store it, and examples include plastics and rubber when stretched beyond their elastic limit. In physics, the term "inelastic" is often used interchangeably with "unelastisch" in some languages.

Understanding whether a product or material is elastic or unelastic is important for economic policy, pricing strategies, and material science applications.
