Undirtegund

Undirtegund is a taxonomic rank used in biology to denote a population within a species that is distinct in certain characteristics and occupies a particular geographic area. The term is Icelandic for “subspecies” and is used to translate the English concept in zoological and botanical contexts. A subspecies is typically defined by consistent morphological, genetic, or ecological differences that persist across populations, while still retaining the ability to interbreed with other populations of the same species where ranges overlap.
