Ultrasom

Ultrasom is a term used to describe ultrasound in several languages; it refers to the technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of structures within the body or in materials. In medical imaging, ultrasound uses sound waves above the audible range to visualize soft tissues, organs, blood flow, and fetal development. Common modes include A-mode, B-mode, and Doppler ultrasound, each providing different information about tissue structure and motion. Equipment typically consists of a hand-held transducer, a gel for acoustic coupling, and a display console that processes echoes into real-time images.

Applications span obstetrics and gynecology, abdominal imaging, cardiology, and musculoskeletal assessment, as well as guidance of interventional procedures. Therapeutic uses exist in certain settings, and some devices target physiotherapy or tissue healing. Ultrasound is non-ionizing and generally considered safe when used by trained professionals, though exposure is kept at appropriate levels and justified by medical necessity, with particular caution in pregnancy.

In industrial contexts, ultrasound is employed for nondestructive testing, flaw detection, thickness measurements, and evaluation of welds and composite materials. The term Ultrasom may also appear as a brand name or product designation for ultrasound equipment or software, depending on the market.
