Uforanderlighet

Uforanderlighet is a term used primarily in Swedish-language discourse to denote unchangeability or invariance of a property, state, or law. The concept refers to qualities that remain essentially the same under specified conditions or over time. In standard Swedish, the prevailing term for this idea is oföränderlighet, with or without stylistic variants; uforanderlighet appears only rarely, often as a nonstandard or dialectal form.

Etymology and usage notes: the word is formed by adding a negating prefix to föränderlighet (changeability). While foränderlighet denotes changeability, and oföränderlighet denotes unchangeability, uforanderlighet is not common in formal texts. When it appears, it is typically to emphasize negation or to reflect a particular stylistic choice.

Contexts and applications: in philosophy, uforanderlighet is used to discuss essential or necessary properties that resist alteration across possible worlds. In the natural sciences and mathematics, invariants and constants are treated as ideas of unchanging truth under transformations. In computer science, immutable data structures embody practical unchangeability, ensuring that data cannot be altered after creation.
