UGM

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is a public research university located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the oldest and largest higher education institutions in the country and is consistently regarded as one of the top universities in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

Founded on December 19, 1949, UGM was established in the post-independence era through the consolidation of several Indonesian higher education institutions and was named after Gadjah Mada, a 14th-century Majapahit prime minister and national figure.

The university operates from a main urban campus in Yogyakarta and offers a wide range of programs across multiple faculties and schools. It provides undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in fields including medicine, engineering, law, economics and business, social and political sciences, humanities, mathematics and natural sciences, agriculture, and more. UGM emphasizes research and community engagement, with numerous research centers and institutes affiliated with its faculties.

UGM maintains national and international collaborations, student exchange programs, and joint research initiatives with universities and research organizations around the world. It enacts governance through a rector, an academic senate, and a system of faculties and graduate schools with significant involvement from students and staff.

As a leading Indonesian university, UGM has produced a large number of graduates who have risen to leadership positions in government, academia, industry, and civil society, contributing to national development and scientific progress.
