Tähystystekniikat, or endoscopic techniques, refer to a group of minimally invasive medical procedures that utilize an endoscope to visualize internal organs or structures. An endoscope is a flexible or rigid tube equipped with a light source and a camera, allowing medical professionals to examine body cavities and organs directly. These techniques are widely used in diagnostics and therapeutic interventions across various medical specialties.

Diagnostic endoscopy involves inserting the endoscope into the body to identify abnormalities such as inflammation, ulcers, polyps, or tumors. The images captured by the camera are displayed on a monitor, enabling detailed inspection. Therapeutic endoscopy allows for corrective procedures to be performed during the same examination. This can include removing polyps, stopping bleeding, dilating narrowed passages, or taking tissue samples for biopsy.

Common types of endoscopic procedures include gastroscopy, which examines the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum; colonoscopy, which visualizes the large intestine; bronchoscopy, used for the lungs and airways; and laparoscopy, which involves inserting an endoscope through small incisions in the abdomen to view abdominal organs. The benefits of these techniques include reduced recovery time, less pain, and smaller scars compared to traditional open surgery. They have significantly advanced diagnostic capabilities and treatment options in modern medicine.
