Variants are described based on their function, such as optical coatings (anti-reflective, reflective), protective coatings (hard, corrosion-resistant), electrical conductive layers, semiconductor layers for transistors, or dielectric layers in capacitors. These functional distinctions highlight the diverse roles thin films play across numerous technological fields.
