Tsukishima

Tsukishima is a district located in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, Japan. It is primarily a residential area situated on a man-made island in Tokyo Bay, north of the more famous Odaiba. The island was created through land reclamation in the early 20th century. Tsukishima is divided into two main parts, Tsukishima 1-chome and Tsukishima 2-chome, with distinct characteristics.

The area is well-known for its grid-like street layout, a result of its planned development. Historically, Tsukishima was a working-class district, but in recent decades it has undergone significant redevelopment, transforming into a more modern residential and commercial hub. Many high-rise apartment buildings have been constructed, attracting a mix of young professionals and families.

One of Tsukishima's most distinctive features is its culinary fame, particularly for monjayaki. This savory pancake dish, a local specialty, is served in numerous restaurants throughout the district, with a street often referred to as "Monja Street." Tsukishima also boasts a lively shopping arcade, Tsukishima Street, offering a variety of local shops and eateries.
