Tsivilisatsioone is a term in Estonian that refers to civilisations or civilizational complexes. It denotes large-scale human societies characterized by urban centers, centralized political authority, administrative systems, social stratification, specialized labor, long-distance exchange, and often writing and monumental architecture. The concept is used in archaeology, anthropology, and history to analyze how complex social organization emerged and spread.

Origins and development programs in world history associate civilisations with several regions where urban, state-level societies first took shape. Early examples often cited include Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, and Egypt, with later instances in China, Mesoamerica, and the Andean region. The emergence of civilisations is commonly linked to agricultural surpluses, population growth, and the division of labor that enabled administrative and technological innovations.

Approaches and criteria for identifying tsivilisatsioone vary. Traditional frameworks emphasize urbanism, writing systems, centralized governance, monumental architecture, and extensive trade networks. Other perspectives stress social complexity, economic integration, and cultural achievements.
