Statelevel, often written as state level or state-level, refers to the administrative, legislative, and executive activities conducted within a subnational political unit in federal or decentralized systems. It denotes governance at the level of states or equivalent subdivisions rather than at the national or local level. State-level governments are typically empowered to draft and implement laws, regulate public services, and manage resources within their jurisdiction, subject to national constitutions and frameworks.

In most federations, the state level is staffed by distinct institutions, including an executive (such as a governor or premier), a state legislature, and an independent judiciary operating under a state constitution. Common responsibilities include education, policing, transportation, health, social services, licensing, environmental regulation, and taxation to a degree. State-level authorities coordinate with national governments on policy and funding and collaborate with local governments to deliver services and implement programs.

The distribution of state-level powers varies by country. In the United States, states enjoy substantial autonomy with their own constitutions and substantial policy discretion. In India, states have significant legislative and administrative powers under the constitution, with a Chief Minister and state legislature governing many domains. In Germany, the Länder have constitutional status and considerable authority, particularly in areas like education and policing, while remaining under the federal framework.
