Trykkklare

Trykkklare is a term used primarily in publishing and print production to describe content, files, or layouts that are ready for the printing process. An item described as trykkklare has passed pre-press checks and meets the technical requirements of the chosen printing method, whether offset, digital, or web printing.

Key characteristics usually associated with trykkklare material include correct image resolution (commonly 300 dpi or higher at final size), proper colour management (typically CMYK with appropriate ICC profiles), and fonts either embedded or converted to outlines. The document should have correct page size and bleed (often 3–5 mm), with trim marks and any other marks required by the printer. File formats are typically print-ready, such as PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4, and all linked assets should be included or embedded. The file should not be password protected, and a final proof—soft or hard—should be approved before production.

In practice, the label trykkklare signals that the content is prepared for production without further design or technical adjustments. It is commonly used by graphic designers, printers, and publishers to indicate that a file is suitable for sending to a press run, reducing the risk of delays due to missing specifications.

Etymology-wise, the term combines trykk (printing) with klar (ready). Variants and usage can differ by region and company, with some contexts preferring trykkklar or other formulations while conveying the same basic meaning.
