Trotlines

A trotline is a type of fishing rig used to catch fish. It consists of a long main fishing line, typically made of nylon or other strong synthetic material, to which many baited hooks are attached at intervals by smaller dropper lines. The main line is anchored at both ends, usually to the bottom or to submerged objects, and is suspended in the water column. The bait on the hooks attracts fish, which then get hooked.

Trotlines are commonly used for catching a variety of fish species, including catfish, eels, and other bottom-dwelling or mid-water fish. The effectiveness of a trotline depends on factors such as the type and placement of bait, the depth of the water, the strength of the current, and the species of fish being targeted. Anglers often check trotlines periodically to remove caught fish and re-bait the hooks.

This fishing method can be employed from a boat or from the shore, depending on the location and the desired positioning of the line. In some areas, regulations may govern the use of trotlines, including the number of hooks allowed and the types of waters where they can be deployed.
