A trotline is a fishing rig consisting of a long main line to which many shorter lines are attached at intervals. These shorter lines, called droppers, are usually equipped with hooks and bait. The main line is anchored at both ends, often to the bottom of a body of water, and may be held in place by buoys or weights.
