The concept emerged in urban planning discussions during the early to mid-2020s as an aspirational model for reducing car dependency and improving route efficiency. It is not a single implemented system, but a family of designs that emphasize interoperability, data standards, and incentive structures to align operators and travelers.

Core elements of transportkihi include an open, interoperable data layer; a unified booking and payment interface; dynamic routing algorithms; and modular fleets that can scale from shuttles to micro-mobility devices.
