Transkriptiotyö

Transkriptiotyö, or transcription work, refers to the process of converting spoken language from audio or video recordings into written text. This can include a wide range of content, such as interviews, lectures, meetings, podcasts, medical dictations, and legal proceedings. Transcribers listen to the audio and type out what is said, often requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

There are two main types of transcription: verbatim and intelligent verbatim. Verbatim transcription includes every single sound, including stutters, filler words like "um" and "uh," and even background noises if specified. Intelligent verbatim, on the other hand, removes these non-essential elements to create a more readable and concise text, while still maintaining the original meaning.

Transkriptiotyö can be performed by freelance individuals or by specialized transcription agencies. The skills required include excellent listening comprehension, fast and accurate typing, strong grammar and spelling, and sometimes subject-specific knowledge, especially for medical or legal transcription. Technology plays an increasing role, with transcription software and AI tools assisting in the process, though human transcribers are often still needed for complex or nuanced audio. The demand for transcription services has grown with the proliferation of digital content and the need for searchable and accessible information.
