Transkateterteknikker refers to the techniques and methods used in transcatheter procedures, which involve the insertion of a catheter through a small incision or natural orifice into a blood vessel or body cavity to reach a target site. These procedures are minimally invasive and are often used to treat conditions such as atrial fibrillation, valvular heart disease, and vascular diseases. Transcatheter techniques have gained significant popularity due to their reduced invasiveness, shorter recovery times, and lower complication rates compared to traditional open-heart surgeries.

One of the most common transcatheter techniques is the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), which is used to replace a damaged or diseased aortic valve. In this procedure, a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel in the leg or groin, and a balloon is used to guide the catheter to the heart. A new valve is then delivered through the catheter and positioned in the aortic position. TAVR is particularly beneficial for high-risk patients who are not suitable candidates for open-heart surgery.

Another important transcatheter technique is the transcatheter mitral valve repair or replacement (TMVR), which is used to treat mitral valve disease. In this procedure, a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel in the leg or groin, and a balloon is used to guide the catheter to the heart. A new valve or a repair device is then delivered through the catheter and positioned in the mitral valve. TMVR is less invasive than open-heart surgery and has shown promising results in improving symptoms and quality of life for patients with mitral valve disease.

Transcatheter techniques are also used in the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), a common heart rhythm disorder. One such technique is the transcatheter atrial fibrillation ablation (TAFA), which involves the use of a catheter to deliver energy to the heart and create lesions that block the abnormal electrical signals causing the AF. TAFA is a less invasive alternative to surgical ablation and has shown good success rates in restoring normal heart rhythm.

In addition to these techniques, transcatheter techniques are also used in the treatment of vascular diseases, such as peripheral artery disease and aortic aneurysms. For example, in the treatment of peripheral artery disease, a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel in the leg or groin, and a balloon is used to widen the narrowed or blocked artery. This procedure, known as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA), helps restore blood flow to the affected area and relieve symptoms such as pain and poor wound healing.

Transcatheter techniques have revolutionized the field of cardiology and vascular medicine by providing less invasive alternatives to traditional open-heart surgeries and other invasive procedures. These techniques offer several advantages, including reduced invasiveness, shorter recovery times, and lower complication rates. As technology continues to advance, it is expected that transcatheter techniques will become even more refined and widely used in the treatment of various cardiovascular and vascular conditions.
