TransLink

TransLink, officially known as TransLink, The Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority, is the regional transportation authority for Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is responsible for planning, financing, and coordinating public transit services across the region and works to integrate networks that include buses, light rapid transit, and sea connections.

The authority was established by the Government of British Columbia in 1999. It operates under a two-tier governance structure that includes a Mayors' Council on Regional Transportation and a board of directors appointed by member municipalities and the provincial government.

TransLink oversees a multi-modal network that includes bus services, the SkyTrain rapid transit system, and the SeaBus passenger ferries. The SkyTrain comprises the Expo Line, Millennium Line, and Canada Line, connecting communities from downtown Vancouver to the surrounding suburbs. The SeaBus provides marine link across Burrard Inlet, and the regional bus network serves a wide area with frequent starting and terminating routes.

Fare collection is managed through the Compass Card system, with stored-value smart cards and other payment options used across TransLink services. The system supports electronic fare payment and, over time, has expanded to accommodate additional payment methods.

Major expansions have included the Canada Line, which opened in 2009, and the Evergreen Extension to Coquitlam completed in 2016. TransLink funding comes from a mix of fare revenue, provincial and municipal contributions, and various grants, with ongoing efforts to expand service and improve reliability across the region.
