Trakeostomiaan
Trakeostomiaan is a surgical procedure used to create an opening in the neck to provide a direct airway for patients who are unable to breathe through their nose or mouth. This procedure is typically performed on individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury, stroke, or other neurological conditions that affect breathing. The trakeostomy is created by making an incision in the skin and underlying tissues of the neck, and then inserting a small tube (tracheostomy tube) into the trachea, the windpipe. The tube allows air to pass directly into the lungs, bypassing the nose and mouth. Trakeostomies are often temporary, but in some cases, they may be permanent. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia and can be done on an outpatient basis. Post-operative care includes monitoring for infection, managing pain, and ensuring proper tube placement. Trakeostomies are a critical intervention in the management of patients with severe respiratory compromise, providing them with the necessary oxygenation and ventilation to support their overall health.
