Tisztítópálcák

Tisztítópálcák, commonly known as cotton swabs or cotton buds, are small, disposable sticks with one or both ends wrapped in cotton. They are primarily used for personal hygiene and cosmetic applications. The cotton tip allows for gentle application and removal of substances, making them suitable for cleaning delicate areas like the ears or applying makeup.

The construction of a tisztítópálca typically involves a slender stick, historically made of wood or paper, now often plastic, and a soft cotton tip. The cotton is usually bleached and sterilized for hygienic purposes. Their versatility has led to a wide range of uses beyond personal care, including cleaning small electronic devices, applying adhesives, and in various craft projects.

While widely used for ear cleaning, medical professionals often advise against inserting cotton swabs deep into the ear canal, as this can push earwax further in, potentially causing impaction or injury to the eardrum. Instead, they recommend cleaning the outer ear with a cloth. Tisztítópálcák are biodegradable when made with paper or wooden sticks, but plastic versions contribute to plastic waste. Manufacturers are increasingly offering eco-friendly alternatives.
